The process

What to expect

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable. Here is a clear picture of how we begin and how the work usually unfolds so you can feel more at ease.

The first conversation

Many people start with a free consultation. This is a chance for us to meet, for you to share what brings you to therapy, and for me to answer questions about my approach, availability, and logistics. There is no pressure — the goal is simply to see whether it feels like a good fit.

If we decide to work together, we schedule your first full session. From the very beginning we clarify why you are coming and what you hope to move toward.

Ongoing sessions

Sessions are conversational. You set the pace. I listen closely, reflect what I hear, and offer tools, perspectives, and skills drawn from ACT, CBT, DBT, and EMDR as they become useful.

You can expect a space that is:

  • Affirming — of your identity, your relationships, and your lived experience
  • Collaborative — you remain the expert of your life; I am the guide
  • Practical — with resources and readings you can use between sessions
  • Safe — confidential, non-judgmental, and paced with care

Progress is not always linear. Some sessions feel lighter; others dig deeper. Both are part of the work.

Common questions

How long does therapy usually last?

It depends on your goals and circumstances. Some people find meaningful benefit in a shorter course of work; others prefer longer-term support. We check in regularly so the length of therapy stays aligned with what you need.

Do you work with adolescents and teens?

Yes. Adolescents and teenagers are welcome, often alongside family involvement when it is helpful and appropriate.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person?

For many clients, yes. Secure video sessions allow continuity of care from the comfort of your own space and expand access across California. We can also blend in-person and virtual appointments.

What if I’m not sure therapy is right for me?

That is completely normal. A consultation is designed for exactly this uncertainty. You can ask anything, get a feel for how I work, and decide without obligation.

Do you accept insurance?

Please contact the practice for current insurance and fee information. We can discuss options during a consultation.
